Flower Flavored Food Trending This Year
Flower Power is not just for the late 60s -70s! For 2018, we will be seeing new and updated recipes with foods flavored by flowers. This seems to go along with the root-to-stem recipe trend. We are looking for new ways to use nature’s gifts that can be found all around us. Of course, you must keep in mind that not all flowers are edible. And more importantly, certain parts of edible flowers are not for consumption either. It is important to know the differences. Experiment with flavor, but not with safety!
By now, you may have already sipped a lavender-infused eat, bit into a hibiscus donut and had some salad sprinkled with pansies. While this is not a new thought, you will see an increase in flower flavored food items – and a demand for them. Flowers are beautiful. And what is even more beautiful is that they are not just for eating! Many edible flowers offer some great flavors to go along with that pop of color. Find ways where you can work this trend into your menu. Cocktail and food menus can benefit with a little update now and then.
In case you missed it, here is a list of 2018’s food trends. Which ones will you be introducing to your guests? If you are nervous to fully commit to a few items, consider a focus group or tasting menu. They are a great way to ‘test’ out some new recipes and receive some feedback.
